Retro Reading…

Been on a bit of an old-school kick with some of my reading. Grabbed some old annuals from the local charity shop, namely a 1979 BATTLE and ’91 GI JOE. I used to devour this stuff when I was a lad and it’s fun to dip back in, wryly laugh at all the politically incorrect language and senseless violence that the kids of today (or their parents at the very least) might frown upon.

Likewise with the magazines I’m reading. The last three I picked up were from e-bay; two issues of KERRANG! (’85 and ’88 respectively) and an ’87 METAL HAMMER. Here’s some of the characters you’re gonna find in there…

And here’s a review that had me smiling: it’s King’s X, my all-time fav band…

king's x kerrang… and having caught them back in 2009 (or was it ’08?), I can confirm they are just as awesome now as they were back then.

So what’s this all about? Well, I just scored a new gig writing for a music mag (that will remain nameless for now) and it’s very exciting. The journo side of writing is something I’ve been thoroughly enjoying over the last year or so as a regular contributor to Skin Deep Magazine and I’m thrilled to take it further with this new gig.

More details soon…

In other news, what about these little beauties? They’re the latest to get a German language facelift courtesy of our good friends over at Voodoo Press

The latter, of course, is a remix of the cover for the Infected Books edition designed by Sion Smith of Bad Hare Books and it’s translated (see what I did there?) really well over to the German market, I think.

Anyway, have a great weekend and, hey, maybe take a trip down memory lane yourself? You never know where it might lead…
