Prequel to Plastic Jesus: Kitty Wants A Hitty

Notice anything different around here?

Like a brand new website logo?

That’ll be thanks to my pal Sion Smith who’s not only a damn fine writer, but a dab hand at the ol’ DTP to boot.

So to celebrate a reboot of sorts, let’s have some cyberpunk: KITTY WANTS A HITTY is the almost-new prequel to my sci-fi thriller PLASTIC JESUS (published by Salt) and I’ve parked that bad girl right here in this thread.

PLASTIC JESUS is basically my love letter to Ridley Scott (for Blade Runner) and the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic, 2000AD. Its prequel KITTY WANTS A HITTY focuses on two of the book’s main characters, Paul and Kitty McBride, and their bittersweet relationship.

Book Review: Caliban’s War by James S.A. Corey

caliban's war

The second book in the Expanse series of space opera goodness by James SA Corey (the pen name for co-authors Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck), Caliban’s War continues the exploits of likely lad, Jim Holden, and his crew of misfits as they wreak merry carnage across the galaxy. Since the first book, things have become even more volatile, with Earth and Mars going to war and Venus quietly breeding a cross between Ridley Scott’s Alien and George Romero’s zombies. Meanwhile, Holden finds himself wham bam in the middle of it all with a trigger-happy Martian marine, potty-mouthed UN official and wiry little botanist who just wants to find his daughter.

I love these books because they don’t feel like books: it feels more like watching a TV series than reading. And, like all the best TV out there, I just wanted to bomb my way through it all in one sitting.

In short, this is some of the best sci-fi I’ve ever read. If you’re not onboard with this series already, remedy that right now.

VAPOURS: A Norn Iron Zombie Movie

Well, here’s a little something for the weekend. Northern Irish upstarts, Dead On Films, released their debut film, VAPOURS, around Halloween and it’s quite the spectacle! Despite a budget of absolutely nothing, the Dead On team – led by long time reader and supporter of my work, Lewis Duncan –  have really come through with a short film that often punches above its weight. Rampacked with local humour, buckets of gore and some stand-out performances, VAPOURS takes its cue from a personal fav of mine, Conor McMahon’s DEAD MEAT, and is definitely worth your time. Available on Youtube right now for free. Just click on the screengrab below and you’re good to go.
